Response to Blog Post #7 (Ellery's Home Alone)

I cannot count how many times now I have watched Home Alone or Home Alone 2, it is a classic movie and it never gets old. I think it is hilarious that you found videos about Kevin on YouTube. The fact that someone took the time to make this video in the first place alone is hilarious, but I love how at the beginning of the video they describe him as a “sociopathic criminal”. When I stop and actually think about it, this would be crazy if it happened in real life. I also enjoyed the Home Alone Parody. It made me laugh when he said the line “You guys give up yet or are you thirsty for more?” It’s almost as if they flip the characters around and make Kevin the bad guy when in the actual Home Alone movie, he is seen as a hero for being 8 years old and defending his house the way he does. In the parody video Kevin is injuring them for crazy things like using the bathroom sink. The part with the bird lady is also hilarious to me. First of all, I did not expect him to throw a refrigerator on her head. There was definitely incongruity there because of the unexpectedness of the refrigerator being thrown. He screams “I GAVE YOU TURTLEDOVES WOMAN” which brought me back to the heartfelt scene of the original movie.  What a great way to rekindle that relationship. There was also incongruity in the last part where the man with the shovel comes in and bangs Kevin’s roommate on the head because in the original movie Kevin was afraid of this man and now, he is happy that he hit someone on the head with his shovel.
